Biryani
Origin of Biryani
Biryani is originated from the Persian word 'Biriyan', which means Fried rice before cooking'. One of the legends is Tamerlane(timur) brought it to India in 1398.Another legend has Arab travelers brought it in Malabar. But I would stick with the 1st legend. The other famous legend is from Mumtaz Mahal, wife of Shah Jahan visiting the barracks. In any case it is very popular dish in the Indian subcontinent and treated as royalty dishes. According to the historian Lizzie Collingham, Biryani was developed in the Mughal Kitchens around 1526.
